Steven has been recognized as being in the top 1% of all Real Estate Agents in North America. He was first licensed in Alberta 1992 when oil was $9.00 a barrel and the real estate market was extremely challenging. This experience served him well when he opened his Real Estate practice in Kelowna in 2009 as the market was in fast decline. Despite this and not knowing anyone in town, Steven became the #1 agent in the #1 office in BC within just three years. Knowing how to sell homes no matter what the market lead Steven to develop his Guaranteed Home selling System. One of several programs that give service level agreements to both Buyers and Sellers.
Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1992, Steven was a member of the British special forces. Only one in fifty that starts out with a dream of earning a green beret gets to finish up the Western World’s longest basic training and become a Royal Marines Commando. He is a firm believer that the principles of meticulous planning and high level of execution are what separates good from great, whether it is in a military operation or in the highly competitive real estate market.
Steven loves his profession but is always mindful of why he works so hard. He is a family man with a passion for helping the youth. Quality of life for his family was the motivation for relocating from Edmonton to the Okanagan. Steven is married with four children, but is also involved in our community. He has coached youth soccer at many levels since 1993 and is a supporter of several youth-based charities. Steven explains it's a family tradition.
My parents were always actively involved in volunteering and advocating for youth. Growing up, our summers were spent hanging out at camps my mum volunteered at. Dad was a radio celeb in my younger days and a politician later on. In both roles, he leveraged his position to help less fortunate kids. For me, supporting incredible children's charities with every home our team sells is as much a duty as it is a passion—carrying on that tradition.

Why did you decide to be a REALTOR®?
When I first came to Canada, I was offered a job in Toronto as a bodyguard for a top bank executive but decided that was not for me. So, I bought a book called How to Master the Art of Selling written by Tom Hopkins who is a former REALTOR® to read while on the plane to Edmonton. By the time I landed, I had decided that I would sell Real Estate! It seems like a big change, but in reality, the two careers have a lot in common. Few people ever succeed at a high level, you need to be prepared to work long hours under stress and failure is not an option if you want to complete your mission. Although nobody has ever shot at me during a real estate negotiation!
What is the best part of your career as a REALTOR®?
I have so many answers to that question! I love my job and have fun doing it. Each day offers fresh challenges and opportunities unlike any that came before. It's never boring! I also get to meet so many interesting and fun people, from young first-time buyers to CEOs and sports celebrities. Most clients end up being friends too, which is nice, but most important is the difference I can make for people. I get to help people at some critical points of their lives when success is very important and the pressure is on. I love that kind of pressure, I really love it. I think the most fun of all is a challenge that nobody else could do prior, such as selling a home that expired three times and getting it sold, so people can finally move on with their lives. That's a great feeling for both me and my clients and it's so rewarding.
What is the thing you dislike most as a REALTOR®?
I hate when a deal on a home someone is really counting on collapses after a full two weeks of waiting to hear about conditions. Then I have to deliver the news. Those are tough calls to make because you can’t help but get personally invested in your clients’ hopes and dreams. If you do enough business, you’re going to have to make a few of those calls every year. Hate them!
What is the funniest thing that you can tell us about what you have encountered as a REALTOR®?
I honestly cannot publish my funniest moments! There have been some doozies! Ask me in person with no recording devices close by and I can give you a few without names and an address! I actually have fun every day at work, when that stops, so will I. I honestly love what I do and I am in the privileged position of being able to choose which clients I work with at this stage of my career. So everyone I work with is fun, I get to hear laughter just about every day at work. I'm a truly lucky person.
Favourite Book, Food & Movie?
I love non-fiction books. I am a PASSIONATE reader of sales, marketing, psychology, autobiographies and business books. I still read every day for at least 30 minutes. I think we should never stop striving to improve our understanding and skills or trying to be a better person and, for me, reading helps me achieve this ongoing mission. I love Indian food, but I like to cook Italian. My favourite movie is Good Will Hunting (RIP Robin Williams) but I love any movie that can make me laugh, cry or really make me think and still have me thinking the next day...
If you could have one superpower to help you do your job better, what would it be?
My gut reaction is to say mind reading, but I’m already pretty good at that—and to be honest, it might take some of the fun away. Maybe the ability to travel forwards and back in time so I could help my clients buy at 2000 prices and sell at 2030 levels! Perhaps I could pick up some Apple stocks while I was back in the year 2000!
To be serious, I think a great team is a superpower—and I have one, for which I am truly grateful.
In ten words or less, what would you like your clients to say about you to their friends, co-workers, and family?
Steven cares, and his expertise gave us a meaningful advantage.
